New roles same goals for Swoosh Training coaches

After three years operating in the Taranaki community Swoosh Training and its coaches will be pursuing new opportunities outside the region in 2022.

Since 2018 Swoosh Training has been involved within the region working alongside local Clubs and Associations to help facilitate programs/initiatives.

Along with successfully working alongside local organisations the Swoosh Training Academy programs also helped grow & develop new wave’s of young basketball talent within the region. Since 2020 coach Samara Funnell has be the lead coach within the region while coach Joe Reddish pursued NZNBL opportunities.

During this time Sam oversaw all Swoosh Training academy programs along with various small group sessions, regional rep teams and day to day Hawera basketball operations.

“Coach Sam totally embodies the Development Never stops philosophy. Her development as a coach over the last few years has lead to multiple opportunities. From Involvement within NZ National programs, a prestigious internship with Basketball Immersion to even developing interest from NZNBL programs. It is no surprise that other regions have noticed her” ~ Joe Reddish founder/director of Swoosh Training

As of 2022 coach Sam will step into the new role as the Clubs and Schools Development Officer for Franklin Basketball Association

“Franklin Basketball are excited to welcome on board Coach Sam as the new Clubs and Schools development Officer.  Sam is a young, up and coming coach in her own right who has coached many levels throughout the Taranaki region…. Sam will play a big role in helping Franklin continue to build our Club infrastructure but we are most excited about her building the women and girls side of the game” FBA GM Jamie Reddish

I’m excited to have Joe around to assist Franklin Basketball in the development of players and coaches. Knowing the work he puts in on court each day with our local players can only benefit us all on the long run. Growing the game is our collective mission and Joe will be key in supporting that” -  Scott Kelso GM Bulls Basketball Inc

This move has also triggered an exciting new era for Swoosh Training. With the academies no longer operating the team will focus on key areas such as off season training, online resources and greater focus on Nation wide Camps to further assist in the development of basketball across NZ.

"I am and will forever be thankful for my time in Taranaki and the journey I was on with my basketball coaching and Swoosh Training. New opportunities have arisen and I feel happy to follow our mantra of development and continue to do so myself by exploring this new opportunity and growing as a coach in all areas I can. I am looking forward to how this helps us all get better together" - Samara Funnell player development Swoosh Training.

“As sad as it may seem with this chapter coming to a close it also brings more opportunity for us as a brand and as individuals. We are excited to take forward all our experiences into these new roles with the same goals in mind to better grow and develop the game we love.” - Joe Reddish founder/director of Swoosh Training

Coach Sam & Joe will step into their new roles at Franklin Basketball as of 1st of Feb 2022.
